In original monthly parts, 20 parts in 19 [i-vii]viii[ix]x-xii[xiii]xiv[xv-xvi], [1]2-624. Illustrated by Hablot K. Browne. ANNOTATED by Thomas Hatton as follows: part IX, inside rear wrapper "M. C. 9" - part XV, on rear ad "The Spring," ("M C / 15") - part XIX/XX on page 1 of E. Moses and Son ad "M C 19/20." [TOGETHER WITH] Autograph letter signed by Thomas Hatton to Mr. Collis, two pages, dated August 24, 1933, mentioning Mr. Cleaver and the Dexter copy of Martin Chuzzlewit. All wrappers are correct, Part VII lacks the rare "Foreign Travel" slip, which is known only in 6 copies, according to Hatton and Cleaver. All other parts are complete, having all the ads, slips and Advertisers called for in Hatton & Cleaver, except the following: Part V lacks the "Thomas Boys" ad; Part XI lacks the rear ad, "The Pride of London." - Part XII lacks "The Winter Season" ad - Part XVI lacks the rear ad, "The Temple of Fashion." Part XIX/XX has the first state of the vignette title and the 13 line errata, which is the first issue. Subscribers names or initials on front wrapper of parts II, IV, V, VII and XII. Spines are expertly renewed on most parts. Front wrappers of parts III and XVII with small fore-edge repair. Plates of part V are browned at edges and plate #26 (in part XIII) with light marginal stain, neither affecting the illustration; all other plates are very good to fine. Ink droplet on front wrapper of parts VIII and XIV. Tissue guards are in place. Housed in a green cloth clamshell box, with black leather lettering piece on spine.
