Original green printed wrappers; Annotated by Dickens bibliographer Thomas Hatton, on verso of plate #3, thus: "Part II - Dombey" and in part X, page 320 thus: "CP TH" meaning "clean and perfect" as we have seen on the last page of text, in other parts in the Hatton & Cleaver collection. [Together with] An autograph note by Thomas Hatton is laid into part XIV. Early issue of text: part IX, page 284, 5th and 6th line up, with "Delight" for "Joy." Part XI, page 324, last line, "Captain" is corrected. Part XIX/XX has the 2 line errata and the title page erroneously shows Captain Cuttle's hook on his left hand. Light soiling to the front wrap of part 1. Plates are very good to fine. Plates in parts III and XVI are lightly browned at edges, not affecting illustrations. Subscriber name on front wrap of part VII. Bookseller's ticket on front wrap of parts I, V, XII, XIV and XVI. Ads lacking are: part IV lacks The Man in the Moon slip, but has the Lett's Diaries 4-fold sheet but without the specimen leaves; part IX lacks the Gilbert's Dictionary ad; part X lacks the Lett's, Son and Steer slip and one leaf of Gilbert's Dictionary ad; part XI lacks Lett's, Son and Steer slip; part XV lacks the Diary leaves specimens; part XVI lacks Punch Almanacks slip; part XVII lacks Mechi Catalogue. All other ads, slips and Advertisers called for by Hatton & Cleaver are present. All wrappers are correct, except the rear wrap of part I, which is supplied from another part VI. Spines expertly renewed on some parts. A truly outstanding set and from the Hatton & Cleaver collection. Housed in a green quarter-leather slipcase, with chemise.
