Recently bound to style in 3/4 brown calf over marbled boards, marbled end papers, red and green leather labels on spine, printed in gilt. Cowan said that this work is "the most extensive source book of authorities covering the period 1847-50." Maps included are Fremont's surveys, military maps of Fort Hall, Monterey, the Presidio, and Beale's expedition. And there are 2 maps of lower California. The present work was so popular, that 10,000 extra copies were ordered to be printed. One map with an archival repair to a fold; occasional light offsetting; a very good, handsome copy.
