"Buffalo Bill's copy, signed by him "W F Cody / 2932 Lafayette St - 1916" on front pastedown. This address is Mr. Cody's sister's address in Denver Co, and the place where he died in 1917. William Frederick Cody, b. Feb. 26, 1846, d. Jan. 10, 1917, at age 14 joined the Pony Express, answering an ad for "skinny, expert riders willing to risk death daily." Later he served in the Civil War, served as an Army scout (Chief of Scouts) and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1872. He supplied buffalo to feed construction crews building railroads. In 1883 Cody founded "Buffalo Bill's Wild West" show, which toured for 3 decades in the United States and later in Europe. The show starred himself, Annie Oakley and for one season, Chief Sitting Bull. Buffalo Bill was one of the most famous people in the world, at the time of his death in 1917. Eighteen thousand mourners visited at the Colorado State Capitol building.
