Clement-Janin, Noel. Coups d'Oeuil sur Paris. Paris; January 20, 1911: Ch. Hessele, LIMITED EDITION. Quarto. One of only twenty-five numbered copies on China paper illustrated by Charles Heyman with the 21 plates in two states (42 plates total) and an extra suite of 63 wood engraved plates after Charles Heyman engraved by P.E. Vibert. A total edition of 325 copies were issued. This copy contains an original 2 5/8" x 5 1/2" wood block illustration in black with added white and gray coloring and with the white coloring extending outside the illustration's border as if Heyman was hiding imperfections. Tipped onto paper with cellophane tape or glassine paper strips? signed by Heyman "Ch. H." and placed at page 104. Text and plates laid into original pictorial wrappers designed from one of the first plates, glassine wrapper with closed tear to rear panel, all housed in its original decorative cloth and paper covered chemise with ribbon ties. uncut, a few light spots of foxing to outer edges of leaves otherwise a fine set of this scarce work. ADVANCE REVIEW COPY, 188pp., bound in pale gray printed wrappers, paper label with publication date mounted over continuing title, residue from sticker mounted over "publication date will be announced later" notice., spine darkened. Owner's name stamp to front panel, that of Father David Bulman, C.P., St. Paul of the Cross Province (1913-1972) . After a year of sacred eloquence and a short time as a parish mission preacher Father Bulman was named the associate editor of Sign Magazine from July 1943 until January 1952. Under his direction the magazine started to publish signed book reviews. In April 1944 he wrote a courageous article against the United States saturation bombing of Europe. A very good copy.
